'Tis the season for presenting undergraduate research...

Denise, Justine and Linnea at UROP, presenting their poster on toddlers' understanding of social hierarchies.

This is the time of year when our students present the work they've been doing in the lab since last fall. Many of our students present at two conferences: The first is the UCI Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) conference, which took place this year on May 19.

The second is our very own 'SoCal Development' (Symposium on Cognition and Language Development) conference, which is a small meeting between our lab, the Sandhofer lab at UCLA, and a few other folks. These meetings are a chance for us to gather and appreciate our students' research in a friendly and supportive environment. Well done, everybody-- we're very proud of you all.

Ghadeer, Vivian and Charlene at UROP, talking about how preschoolers think about decision-making in groups.
Tina, Kelly and Michaela at UROP, presenting research on preschoolers' exploration/exploitation behavior

Silvia, Ann and Heaven at UROP, presenting their poster on preschoolers' understanding of who's in charge of groups.

Elisa at UROP, giving a poster on preschoolers' understanding of the responsibilities of leaders.

Emily Sumner presenting on models of risk-seeking and risk-avoiding behavior in preschoolers.

UCLA's Marissa Ogren, with a study on emotions as a context for word-learning

UCLA's Gwen Price on comparison and contrast in category learning

Our own Kelly and Fatima with a poster on a preschool explore/exploit task.

Elissa Campello de Mello, the conference organizer, takes time out from running the whole event to present her paper on children's understanding of leadership

UCLA's Michele Luna presenting her work on 'Shifting Away from Attentional Biases in Word
Learning with Contextual Cues'

Barbara (second from left) poses with three undergraduate researchers from UCSD
Prof. Cathy Sandhofer of UCLA, who co-founded this meeting with Barbara thirteen years ago.

Success! Head Organizer Elisa Campello de Mello (right) and Co-organizer Vivian Mitchell (left) finish tidying up after the meeting. Great job, you guys!
